    What Minakami Town Is Like

Situated in the northernmost of Gunma Prefecture,
Minakami Town, home to the headwaters of the Tone River,
was designated in 2017 as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve,
a model where nature and humans live together.
Minakami is a town rich in nature, where people can enjoy
four seasons, such as alpine plants coloring mountains
with cherry blossoms in spring, burning red foliage in
autumn, and quiet snow landscape in winter.
Minakami also has its unique 18 hot springs. Minakami, as a town of water sources, offers water activities in the rivers
as well as other various activities in the mountains and on
    the lakes.

    You can enjoy watching stars
in the sky and riding ropeway
at Tanigawadake (Mt. Tanigawa), one of the
    100 top mountains in Japan!

A great number of people use Tanigawadake Ropeway to
come to this ski resort in winter, and to climb and trek
    across Tanigawadake in summer.
The ropeway mountain top, at an altitude of 1,319 meters,
is a paradise under the stars, where colorful flowers come out each season.

What Night Cruising
into the Sky Is Like

From early summer to autumn, the tour “Night Cruising into the Sky” is held by running the ropeway specially at night,
so you can experience Tanigawadake Tenjindaira, which looks different than it looks in the daytime.
In the “2021 Autumn Night Cruising into the Sky”,
Mr. Akira Hasegawa, a world-famous spatial lighting artist, offers you an extraordinary starry night experience,
as he did last year, by using D-K (Digital Kakejiku), which was projected on the eve of the Nobel Prize award ceremony.
In addition, we are happy to inform you that, last year, he was going to have a joint performance with “MIRROR BOWLER”,
an artist group that creates space of lights and reflections by using mirror balls.

What D-K (Digital Kakejiku) Is Like

※No D-K will be held in 2022 autumn.
Digital Kakejiku is a “hanging scroll” that is digitally
created through projectors installed at the venue,
which shows geometric patterns, like colorful abstract
paintings, by using natural things at hand, buildings, and
pedestrians as canvases. Projected picture patterns
change slowly at the same speed at which the earth
    rotates.
The landscape you have just seen with your own eyes
changes every moment into a completely different one.

    MIRROR BOWLER

lections by using mirror balls. This group, which began its
artistic activities in 2000, consists of members from various fields, such as graphic designers, photographers, artists,
and lighting technicians. It aims to create lights that reso-
nate with everybody regardless of their language, race, reli-
gion, etc. seeks to express its own unique view of the uni-
verse and mysterious world, and shows fantastic space ra-
    diating countless numbers of lights.

The star-viewing party, which started in 2010 as part of Gunma Destination Campaign, was originally aimed to show a lot of people the starry sky over Tanigawadake. It was an event preceding the renamed current starry-sky- viewing party, carried down to the present day, in hope of inspiring people.
